Sydney Met is committed to ensuring that any research conducted by Sydney Met staff has appropriate ethical review and oversight. To do this, our Research and Scholarship Committee chaired by the Executive Dean convenes a Research Ethics sub-committee to ensure that all research involving human participants that Sydney Met academic staff are involved with either:

The Research Ethics sub-committee maintains a register of ethics approvals in relation to staff research and scholarship activities.

Research at Sydney Met is conducted ethically and responsibly, according to standards of responsibility, integrity, respect, justice, and impact. Sydney Met researchers recognise the relationship between researchers and research participants as the basis on which human research is conducted.

Research and scholarship are foundational tasks of tertiary institutions and Sydney Met is committed to the highest standards of ethics and professional conduct. Researchers at, or associated with, Sydney Met are therefore expected to conduct their work in accordance with legislative requirements, recognised national and international ethical standards and the highest expectations of their disciplines. By holding to these standards for the responsible conduct of research, Sydney Met College will:

  • promote the highest possible standards of research practice done by Sydney Met staff and student researchers. 
  • protect all those associated with the research from any avoidable harm that may arise from failures to maintain high standards of research conduct.  
  • encourage freedom of expression and mutual collaboration through the open exchange of ideas among academia, practice, policy and communities in Australia and around world. 
  • apply set procedures to manage the conduct of research, including procedures for managing research misconduct and ethics approval protocols, and  
  • protect the rights of all those associated with the research, including student researchers, students, staff, research participants and the public.
