Sydney Met Governance Model

connecting Sydney Met strategy, execution and direction, and ensuring quality, compliance and accountability.

The governance model at Sydney Met is a robust structure that combines the principles of good governance, shared decision-making, and clear accountability. This model meets the regulatory requirements set by TEQSA under the HESF Domain 6: Governance and accountability requiring the College to self-assure its responsibility, accountability, and oversight as a provider of high-quality education, including responsibility for compliance with the HESF requirements. The Governance model comprises institutions, structures, systems, and roles for Sydney Met, ensuring accountable, ethical, and effective governance systems and practices for Sydney Met to deliver academic programs, compliant with the relevant policies and legislation.

Sydney Met has established a transparent, accountable and non-interfering delegation system to ensure the governance is robust and well-functioning. To this end, the Sydney Met BoD has appointed the GC through an Instrument of Appointment, giving it overall responsibility and authority for the governance of Sydney Met. The GC reports to the BoD (or an authorised delegate of the BoD) using the arm’s length principle on the status of the College through the GC Chair. This reporting relationship enables the BoD to meet company requirements while the GC gets clarity about the BoD’s financial position, company administration, and strategic interests. To facilitate this relationship, the BoD may appoint a contact person to facilitate communication between the BoD, the GC, and TEQSA. The BoD may also confer on a person the power to deal with the GC and AB on behalf of Sydney Met (a BoD delegate). The BoD may organise a Strategic Leaders’ Forum (SLF) as a discussion forum where the BoD receives information on the overall picture of the Sydney Met while providing strategic guidance to the GC.
